Why HBV DNA and HbsAg count

@availlant

Hello, sir. My HbV load as of 15 June 2023 is 1,140 iu/ml. Six months ago, it was around 1,800 iu/ml.

HbsAg level is 29 iu/ml.

No anti-viral meds or therapies.

What do you think, sir?

Hi @Jodie_2nd ,

So you have “inactive” chronic HBV. This is characterized by HBV DNA < 2000 IU/mL and normal ALT. Your long term prognosis for not developing liver disease is very good.

You are still at risk of reactivating your HBV infection if you become immunosuppressed or take immunosuppressive medications. Such medications are used to treat autoimmune disorders, cancer or used to prevent organ rejection with transplants. Please keep this in mind.

There is also a small risk (0.05 - 0.1%) of developing liver cancer (HCC). It is not clear at this stage of oral antiviral therapy will change this risk as you have obviously had your infection for many years.

Best regards,
