When doctor will advise to take hbv medication

Hi
Can anyone help me understand hep b medication to take. When would doctor advise to take medication. Do we need to take medicine in acute infection and cleared virus.
Thank you

Hi @Salish99,
The majority of acute infection patients do not require antivirals. They need a lot of rest to allow their bodies to fight the virus. You do not need hepatitis B medication as someone with an acute infection. Best, Bansah1

Hi Bansah1
Thank you for the information
Thann you

Hi @Salish99,

I agree with @Bansah1, if you have cleared the virus, then there is no point in taking antiviral therapy.

Noted and thank you . What are the chances of virus affecting liver in this case. And when is possibility of reactivation to blood. In what duration we have to check liver and blood in this case.
Thank you

Hi there, when I consulted my hepatologist, he assured me that i have resolved hbv infection thru spontaneous healing. HBV acute infection usually resolves in less than 6 months. If your blood test is HBsAg(-) and HBV-DNA(-) after acute infection, it suggests that there’s no evidence of active hepatitis b and you don’t need further monitoring. Reactivation might occur in case of immunosuppressive therapy (e.g. chemotherapy) that can be prevented by antiviral prophylaxis. Hope it helps.

@Tom
Thank you for sharing and encouragement. I have the same scenerio hbsag negative and HBV DNA not detectable.
I just wonder whether symptoms appear even when both mentioned above are negative. I am just having and feeling little discomfort my upper back pain including upper right back but dont have any feeling if pain in my upper right abdomen. Wondering this is related to hep b or some other disease.
Thank you

Hi @Salish99,

The most likely explanation is that your symptoms are caused by another issue; it is not commonly reported that HBV-related symptoms continue after HBV clearance.

After confirmation of virus clearance and assurance that there is no liver damage, there is generally no need to continue monitoring for HBV.

Hope this helps,
Thomas
