Hello everyone,
We had the privilege of attending the VH 2025 - the 15th Australasian Viral Hepatitis Conference - last week in Melbourne!
We gained valuable insights into the Australian Hep B/ C landscape, along with innovative initiatives aimed at improving diagnosis and treatment. This year’s program marked a clear shift: it was community-led, giving a strong platform to lived experiences and community voices.
The focus: Real people. Real actions. Real impact.
Here are some key takeaway to share with you:
- Elimination by 2030 remains the ultimate goal — but for Hep B, we still have a long way to go.
- Stigma and discrimination remain major barriers for the affected community. This is everyone’s business — from the words we choose to cultural awareness and policy change, tackling stigma must be a shared priority.
- The **National Strategy **is still missing — a crucial piece needed to drive progress in diagnosis, treatment, and community support.
- Funding continues to be a key driver for change.
- Peer leadership works — peers are trusted, effective, and essential in empowering the community. Investment and capacity building can scale their impact.
- Cross-sector collaboration is critical for achieving elimination goals.
A special shout out at all the affected community members sharing their stories and tirelessly advocating for significant changes !
A big thank you to all the organisers and participants for creating this powerful and inspiring event.
