I am writing to seek your advice regarding my Entecavir medication. I have been on this treatment for over six months and take it consistently. However, this morning, I was exceptionally busy and cannot recall with certainty whether I took my daily dose. I remember reaching for my pill organizer but have no clear memory of actually taking the medication.
My concern is whether taking a double dose by mistake would cause any harm. I would appreciate any advice! Thank you!
This happened to me few times and the subsequent blood work did not show any changes. I am not a medical doctor, but I don’t think there is a need to take a double dose. Just continue to take the drug as prescribed. But if you took a double dose, also there should never be no issues. This probably happened to me as well for more than 20 years I have been taking a similar drug.
Awhile back, My response from my doctor about accidentally double dosing is that you’ll just run out of your meds quicker other than that there is no harm.
I’ve done the same on occasion and haven’t seen any adverse side effects or abnormal bloodwork due to missing a day/doubling up the next day.
To help minimize those occurrences, I date the bottles of when I open to take the first dose. I also put a week’s supply of meds in a pill case and set an alarm on my phone to take it every morning
Hi @1979,
As you can see from the responses, we have all been there. Something I have found helpful is a daily medication organizer. The one I have daily (am and pm). This has become helpful as it is easy for me to track in cases where I am unsure whether I did or did not take the medicine. I have seen other medicine organizers where you put all the daily pills in one space. I find those difficult to track. If you can find one for daily (am, pm, bedtime), etc. I converted my so I put out medicine to cover me for a whole month because I don’t have anything for pm and bedtime.
Thank you so much for getting back to me and for your advice. I will definitely try to organize my medication schedule, as it will help me remember in case I forget. Thanks again!
