Food, dietary habits and lifestyle changes

Hi everyone,

This is a topic where everyone can share their knowledge and experience about food, dietary habits, and any lifestyle changes they have made to improve their quality of life.

For example, before diagnosis, you never needed to focus on habits like drinking alcohol, smoking, and eating unhealthy foods. But now, after diagnosis, you need to make many behavioural changes to your diet and lifestyle, such as limiting red meat consumption and increasing vegetable intake.

Hello everyone,
I’ve read that drinking a few cups of coffee is safe and good for the liver. Is it okay to consume it with a little sugar?

Hi Linh,

This question has been asked on the forum before, so I’ve just translated for you what Thomas Tu, a scientific expert, wrote,

Several large studies have shown that a moderate reduction in both liver disease progression and liver cancer is associated with drinking more than 2 cups of coffee per day. The reason behind this is still unknown, and actual clinical trials need to be conducted to ensure that it is specifically due to coffee (and not just another related factor). There is some evidence that caffeinated is better than decaffeinated. Reducing refined sugar in general is probably a good thing, so my opinion is to have it without sugar.

Overall, coffee is a very safe and generally well-tolerated addition to your diet and may help protect your liver. I drink at least 2 cups of coffee every day.

Dear @Linh,

Welcome to the forum and thanks for the great question. I see @Mylisa has given a great response, thank you for that. I admit that I love Cà Phê Sữa Đá, particularly in the heat we have in Sydney at the moment. However, the amount of sugar in the condensed milk in (though delicious) is not the best for our health. Best to be moderate with these things.

Yours sincerely,
Thomas
