Step by step: My journey with HBsAg positive!

Hello great community of HepB :waving_hand:

My name is Mohamed from Mauritania, I am 44 years old.

I am new to the forum as well I was just diagnosed HBsAg positive since very few days.

Without the warm welcoming from you when I introduced myself, and the outstanding source of information I got from here, I wouldn’t be in a such great morale like I am in now

On Friday Jun 12, 2026 I received my analysis paper showing this (French):

Everything is negative except for HBsAg is positive, something like a bomb thrown on my entire soul and body! Very frightened!, specially I never encountered any health problems (which I discovered I was wrong later).

I called a friend of mine who works in the field of health care and asked him what should I do. First he calmed me down and told me to redo the HBsAg again and then he’ll guide me through on further steps.

On the following day (June 13) the test result was detailed like this (French):

I showed the second result to my friend and he told me I will go to the Liver And Viral Viruses Institute to control the viral load.

Those remaining days before Monday were just black and white, where I lost the taste of everything and got into a real anxiety.

My friend took me to the Liver And Viruses Institute on Monday 15 where I met the doctor, he was very friendly and supportive so much, he told me my viral load and the situation of the virus if it is silent or active will be determined after the following medical checkups are conducted (to be done within three days on June 22):

He asked me If I am married, I told him I am divorced since many years, he asked me if there’s a member of the family is HBsAg positive, I told him not in my knowledge (my sister will be screening soon to see her status, my ex-wife is negative and my 14 year old son is vaccinated), he asked if I was in doubt of someone, I told him no because I can’t have any sexual contact without marriage (due to my religion which strictly prohibits that).

After the visit, I came back home, and I discovered the forum here! It was the major factor that changed my overall mood from a sharp drop in morale to a very high and positive one!.

Now I am waiting my full analysis next monday and I will be publishing them here, however I must tell you why I was wrong about my health situation!.

Back in 2017 I remember I was feeling fatigue for just nothing with yellow peeing between times with mild fever, I wasn’t aware and truly wasn’t care for that, because stupidly I am kind of those people who do not go to the hospital, everything else was good, no pain, nothing at all concerning my health as I thought, and that was very very wrong thinking.

This situation was coming back and forth until 2023 i felt it has vanished, all this period no idea was coming to my mind about Hepatitis B (what I big stupidity).

At the end, without this great community I wouldn’t be such happy person as I am now:slightly_smiling_face:

Thank you all :folded_hands: and see you soon

Hello @MedMR, great to have you here! I’m happy to hear that finding this community has been a positive experience for you. I hope your tests on Monday reveal some good news. I also want to say that you are not at all stupid for not going to the doctor. I did the same when I had my first flare, because I didn’t know it could be related to my liver or hepatitis B. Most of the time, hepatitis B has no symptoms, or the symptoms are non-specific. Honestly, if you had mild symptoms like fatigue and a slight fever, I don’t blame you for staying at home and trying to sleep it off. I approach things differently now, because now I know a lot more about hep B than I did then.

OMG @et5656 you bahaved the same way I did!, i just ignored and kept going on, specially no abdomen disorder or anything else. Now looking forward on what’s next. Best of all, I am out of that fearing after I read here about great people who live their life in its fullness with HBV. Thank you @et5656 for your reply and your sentiments.

(UPDATE #1):

Today I did three types of analysis:

1- Conducted all blood tests mentioned in the thread above, results to be revealed tomorrow.

2- Fibroscan (French):

3- Abdominal ultrasound (In French):

Hepato-gastroenterology said my results are normal, the Radiologist said there’re gallstones but regarding the liver the results are okay. I wish if there’s a specialist here to read them for me? :folded_hands:

Anyway, I am waiting my blood test results to go to see the doctor.

Thank you.

Hi @MedMR,

These are all good signs that there is no observable liver damage in your case! Great news!

Hello @MedMR

Please remember to see the doctor every 6 months.

So,they can keep an eye on your liver,

Things can change silently and quickly.

Thank you @Caraline :folded_hands: Yes I saw my doctor today and I had all the analysis results except for the HDV screening which takes time to come out.

As you suggested, my doctor told me I have to monitor on time, I got all my viral load results and the other screening as follows (in French):

Doctor said actually I don’t need medication except for regular checkups to see my status.

The biggest thing that turns in my head, as I never ever screened before for HBV is that am I born with it or I got it in my adult age?! Which is of course a mysterious thing in our actual medical level of knowledge.

Hoping one day science will innovate a measuring method of contamning date of the virus.

Anyway, without Hpbcommunity I wouldn’t be such a happy person :heart::heart::heart:

Thank you @Staff @Members you’re such great people:folded_hands::light_blue_heart:

Those results look good @MedMR although I’m not a doctor.

You must be pleased.

Most of us never know where we got HBV from.

It does annoy some but doesn’t change the fact we have

it. Just life, I suppose.
