Shingles vaccine

Shingles Vaccine :grimacing:
Is it safe for HBV patients?
Are we partially protected against shingles if we are on antiviral medication?

Hi @Caraline,
Great question. From what I understand it should be safe. Years ago some of these vaccines had life agents and there were concern that because people with chronic hepatitis B sometimes could be immunocompromised they could experience bad side effects from those live vaccines. But the shingles vaccine does not have live agents anymore so it should be fine. Thanks, Bansah1

Hi all,

HBV does not induce a generalized immunosuppression, so there is no reason to think that the shingles vaccines (including the new one, Shingrix) would perform less well in HBV+ people than anyone else.

John.
