Hi there,
My husband and I have embarked on an IVF journey. Husband 40 (negative) myself 39 (hep b+). I have been taking tenofovir since early 30s with an undetectable load.
My fertility specialist is questioning the medication and the side effects of this impacting or resulting in a fragmented egg quality. Could anyone point me into research for:
a. reducing medication whilst trying to conceive
b. removing medication whilst trying to conceive
c. any research on Hep B or Tenofovir impacting ability to conceive
Thanks in advance

I am unsure about the researches. Just speaking from someone who was in the same shoes, I went through IVF at 35 years old, the quality of my eggs wasn’t good, the quantity was small too only 6, but my numbers weren’t good either, I recall my FSH was near perimenopause at 11 or 13 (at an IVF fertity), but I had chronical anxiety (not diagnosed), but I couldn’t fall asleep due to next day’s medium challenging work. I never linked my poor results with TDF, I always thought it was due to chronical anxiety and poor sleep.
But good news is that I got one 3BB+ embryo at the first try (could have been two, but the technician accidently dropped one 3BB+), and succeeded with the first transplantation. I couldn’t be more grateful to the results.
If there is anything I’d do, I’d try taking TAF rather than TDF.
Wish you the best!

Hi @JOANNEinAUS,
I’m actually not sure about the literature on this. There is a bit of data showing that men with Hep B show slightly lower sperm counts, but it’s not clear that this is clinically significant. Wondering if any @HealthExperts or @ScienceExperts have any comments?
Cheers,
Thomas
