Ongoing anxiety every time I get blood tests

Hi @Gregory,
Yes, it is possible, and I can believe it. We just don’t get enough patients achieving this status with the current antivirals. It took some time, but I am happy to see this happen. I bet you are shocked by this yourself.

You are welcome, and I am glad you found that support helpful. Best, Bansah1

Dear @Gregory,

I echo Bansah1’s comments however, while you have a very good level of anti-HBs, the appearance of anti-HBs does not necessarily prove functional cure has been established. Your current NUC therapy should not be withdrawn until 6 months of undetectable HBsAg has been observed (this is the proven indicator for the establishment of functional cure). The chances of this are very good though. Congratulations.

Thank you for the kind words, Gregory. It is important that we come together as a community to limit the effects HBV has on people.

Dr. @availlant @bansah I just received the HBVDNA results. My doctor’s office hasn’t contacted me yet to comment on the recent tests results. but as you said I will continue with the antivirals TAF for 5/6 months. and test again in 6 months.

Hi @Gregory,

This appears to be consistent with your antivirals works and limiting HBV DNA levels in the blood. This is also consistent with a functional cure. As mentioned by yourself and others, it is important to make sure your HBsAg remains negative over the next few tests before stopping antivirals.

Congratulations again!

Hello and I hope all is well.

It has been few months in fact 6 months since I posted last.

on last April 10th,( my six months check up) my results came back with HBSAg non reactive, HBVDNA non reactive, with HBSAb positive 387.

you can check my History on previous posts but ill share it quickly.

In June 2023 I got diagnosed with Acute Hepatitis B, with strong symptoms, with Viral load in the millions and very high liver Enzymes, debilitated and unable to fight the virus within 6 months.

in October 2023 my doctor due to high viral load with absence of seroconversion insisted in starting NUC therapy (TDF and lately TAF).

from October 2023 to April 10 2025 my Liver enzymes stabilized with all the rest of body But still HBSAg positive.

Until April 10th when the results came back negative.

My doctor although happy for me with the news of seroconversion asked me to do blood work in six months ( October) and he insisted on carrying on taking my prescription ( TAF) for another year.

Six months have now passed and this morning I went in for the blood work, It all came back good the HBsag still non reactive.

my only now concern is that the HBSAB have gone down since April. is there an explanation? is it concerning?

In April 387 unit

October 108. unit

I Hope I don”t feel I take advantage of your kindness if I post my test for you to review.

Thanks you so much

Gregory

Hi @Gregory,
Not at all. I don’t know exactly why the antibodies dropped. My guess is that it’s possible for it to move around and then settle after clearing whatever of the virus left in your system.

Besides that, I think 108 is still a stronger antibody level. I won’t worry so much about that especially given that your HBsAg still remains negative and you still have a stronger antibodies despite some drop.

Keep up with your care. Best, Bansah1

Thanks you @Bansah1 @availlant you are always so effective and nice in your answers.

I have to say HBV it effects people in many ways. during and even after if you resolve the infection.

I’m very happy and grateful with the test results …..and being concerned about the drop in the HBsab comes from the Fear that HBSag becomes positive again.. it’s always in the back of your mind even though it has been more than six months since I became non reactive to HBSag. is there a connection between antibodies and Immune system?

I have been traveling and stressed my body between work and jet lag this past summer, wondering if that could also contribute to the drop in the Antibody

also my doctor wants me to keep taking the antiviral until April 2026 ( 1 year after cleared the virus)

You are welcome. Antibodies are produced by our immune system to protect us from viruses and other pathogens we may get exposed to. They can develop either through vaccination or getting exposed to the pathogen or virus.

Stress can have an effect, by how much that is hard to tell. Try and reduce the amount of stress if you can, eat healthy, and adhere to your care plan. I think your doctor wants to be 100% certain before having you stop treatment. April will be here before you know it. Keep up with your care and you are almost there. Best, Bansah1

Hello @Gregory

Agree with @Bansah1 .

You have a good doctor. He is being very thorough. Stick with him.

Stress is a huge issue in our health and causes all sorts of diseases. Affects us mentally, spiritually and physically.

I know it’s hard to do. But please try to lower your stress.

Hi @Gregory,

Thanks for sharing your update. The fact that your antibody levels have remained above 10mIU/mL is a great sign and protects you from any future exposure. It is normal that levels of HBsAg decrease over time as there is less stimulus for the body to respond to. This is OK, as your body will be forming memory B cells against Hep B, these are long-lived cells that can quickly respond to Hep B if it comes upon them again.

Hope this helps,

Thomas

I do with all my heart , I wish you and all the members of the HBV community the same success.

I’m 58. never had an Illness or been to the hospital or had a Flu ( beside cover once)

,My ordeal started in July 2023 when due the strong symptoms and after extensive blood tests. I was Diagnosed with Acute HBV, I was in the hospital for 5 days, my doctor ( really lucky to have met her) insisted in keeping me under control, because A)my viral load was in the billions and B) had lost a lot of weight with strong joint’s pain.

for the next six months while my body started to recover ( slightly) my Infection got rampant. my Immune system was totally overtaken by the strong type of infection I was experiencing.

In October 2023 my doctor decided I should start NUCs therapy my liver enzymes where high and Viral load in the millions in order to protect my liver from further inflammation and therefore damage.

This is when it all came crashing on me, the realization that I was going into the Chronic stage I was always hoping month after month that I would clear the virus like they say the 95 % of adults do.. unfortunately not me, and that is when I got completely depressed, lost, scared. ashamed and really weak psychologically. Into my deep depression ( by the way its also another symptoms of HBV) I found Hepbcommunity it Helperd me immensely in getting through the shock loneliness stigma and above all informations.

with their help I soon realized that being infected its not a death sentence, but a big adjustment in your life. My doctor said quote “ you are not going to die because of HBV actually you are going to have a much healthier life than if you had a normal one, because you wouldn’t check on what you eat smoke or drink…” I must say that its true.

I started to take TDF and later TAF since October 2023, I looked for psychological help, thanks god I started therapy it helped me immensely I suggest it to everyone has problems and depression related to HBV, and started to eat very health, and not drink not smoke and started running every morning for 10K. and Yoga 3 times a week.

April 2024 my liver enzymes a much lower so is my viral load. still HBSAB positive.

October 2024 same liver enzymes almost normal and viral load undetectable HBSag positive

April 2025 normal liver Enzymes, HBVDNA undetectable, HBSag negative, HBSab positive.

October 2025 Normal liver enzymes, HBV DNA undetectable, HBSag negative HBSab positive.

it took me 18 months to seroconvert, but thanked god it happened.

my doctor says that each and everybody’s body and immune system reacts differently when it comes to viruses, bacteria etc.

in my case it was a long acute HBV, it took me 18 months to clear the virus, because my infection was very strong, and it took longer for my body to repel the attack and eventually overtake it.

as you can see it does happens, keep yourself strong and hopeful and be engaged.

Again all the best Wishes to you all

Gregory

Thank you @Gregory for your heart warming gratitude.

We are here for everyone. We know it can be a difficult struggle. Specially, since it’s not a common illness that is spoken about.

You have a gift with words. I was touched.
