INTRODUCTION THREAD: People affected by Hep B

@john.tavis

Good to know, thank you very much

Hi,
My name is Nasiba.I am 36 years old. 7 days ago I found out that I’m HBsAG Positive. We were planing to start a family with my partner and decided to do IUI treatment but
Test results were Anti HBs <10 HBSAG positive Anti HBc ( iGg and iGm) positive anti hbc igm negative. I don’t know what it means. I’m shocked atm and scared that my life will be painful and short. I have made an appointment with Hepatologist and did some more blood test. Waiting for results.
Since I have Anti HBs <10 does it mean my body is trying to fight it or it means nothing with HBsAG being positive?

Thank you, Nasiba

Hi my name is Perry and my story with Hep B started back in March this year.

My Iron is high so my Dr. suggested that I donate blood to lower the levels. A couple weeks after I donated blood I received a call from the blood bank informing I was Hep B positive.
They found very low level of Hep b DNA. All other markers were clear. I was told I either was just recently exposed or it was a false positive and to contact my Dr. For more tests.

The results of thoes tests was negative. My wife and I were relieved.

2 weeks later Public Health gets involved and has my Dr. order more detailed tests. After a bunch more tests and a couple specialist visits I get final results. I do have Hep B but it is acute and now in remission.
5 months have gone by at this point from the first call now being the end of July.

My wife and children were also tested and came up clear. Which was a blessing in all the confusion.

At this point I’m left wondering what it all means, the where and how. I’m still trying to get my brain around it. Unfortunately other then my wife I have no one to talk to about it and things are difficult there.

When researching information I came across this group and was finding the information useful and friendliness comforting.

Hi @Nasiba_Mansurova,

Thanks for sharing your story and I understand that it is a lot to process at the moment. The lab results suggest that your have been exposed at least 6 months ago and you currently have a chronic hep B infection.

It is not a cause to worry about your life being painful and short. Many of us here on the forum have chronic hep B and we live close to normal lives with no ongoing pain.

It’s great you have booked an appointment with the hepatologist and will get more tests done, that’s the right thing to do.

The anti-HBs <10 means you are negative for it, so you are right that it means nothing because the HBsAg is positive. You can learn a little more about what each test means here: EXPLAINER: Lab results and their interpretation

Hope this helps,
Thomas

Hi @Perry,

Thanks for sharing your story and it’s great that you were able to clear the virus. It makes me really happy that you are finding this group useful and comforting.

Regarding your query about where and how, only a small drop of blood is enough for an infection, so it could have come from maybe a scratch you didn’t think twice about. Because the virus can be asymptomatic for so long, it is difficult to know and indeed you may never know. I think the majority of people, apart from those who know they got it from their mother during birth, do not know where, when or how they were exposed.

I hope this helps,
Thomas

Hi sir,
I don’t know how to post my story and I don’t find option here to send a new mail to this discussion.
I’m from India and I’m 27 years old… Recently I went to hospital for surgery for hernia operation after Operation they told me I’m hbsag +ve… I never did sex with any one. May be I got this due to needles from injections from RMP doctors. Present I don’t have any symptoms. Do it go away on its own. Because I read an article from internet that it will go away after some months. If its prolonged to years… Can I marry someone and get children without infecting my wife and children… Please answer me.

In my reports it is showing I have fatty liver… Because operation I used to go gym and eating well eggs, chicken, rice and all… May that’s why I got fatty liver… From 20 days after my operation I completely eating vegetables and fruits and water only…

Help me with your suggestion.

Dear @Helpme786,

Welcome to the forum and thanks for sharing your experiences. I understand you are quite stressed at the moment finding out about this when you were preparing for a surgery.

To answer some of the issues you raise:

The majority of people get Hep B when they are children and it has stayed with them for that entire time without any symptoms.

This may have been what happened to you, but you need to get some additional tests to understand if this is a recent infection or from long ago. These tests will also let you know if it’s likely it will go away on its own or it will be with you for years. This thread might be useful: EXPLAINER: Lab results and their interpretation

You can marry and have children without infecting your wife, as many users here have done. Your partner simply needs make sure that they are vaccinated before you decide to start having sex. If the mother is negative for hep B, then there is no risk of passing it on to the child during birth (though they should be given birth dose vaccination just to protect them in the community). These thread give a bit more information and may be useful to you: Having children and Hepatitis B; When/how to disclose hep b in a potential relationship?.

Diet is pretty important and it is good that you are trying to eat healthily. Just be sure that fatty liver takes a long time to start to reverse (think about all the years that have led to the fatty liver, it’s very difficult to turn that around straight away). You sometimes need to be a bit patient and there’s not magic pill for it, just long and slow changes. This thread might also help answer some questions: Lifestyle changes, nutrition, and supplements for hep b; Fatty liver medication.

Hope this helps,
Thomas

Thank you sir. I will come back once after completion of my blood tests it costs 15000 rupees(150 dollar) it’s my 1 months salary so I couldn’t afford now… I will do after 3 months and I will be back with my results. Hope for good… Love you all…

Hi I’m Jared 23 from United States , I was diagnosed with chronic hep b in 2017. When I found out I was devastated, I was a college athlete and in great shape and knew nothing about hep b or where to even begin to start. After awhile I came to the realization that I was going to fight this no matter what , I started taking tenofovir and viral loads have came down to undetected. My Dr believes that I contracted the virus at birth and I am just now finding out 20 years later. It’s great to hear everyone else’s stories and I hope we can all fight this together. I have my first ultrasound in December so I’m hoping everything goes well , my numbers are normal ALT and AST. So I’m praying for the best

Sir,
I saw you on YouTube showing that you are working on cure for hepatitis b. Is there any cure coming in future for hepatitis b. I also searched on google that shows thervacb which is going to start trails from August 2022.

Kindly share any details on cure coming in future.

Don’t worry :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:, I’m very strong person with strong mindset. I don’t feel bad if heard there is no cure coming in future. Because of enthusiasm I’m asking this question. I’m prepared to fight :muscle::facepunch::gun:.

I just wanted to say “hi” and give a quick intro. I contracted HBV from my estranged husband. He contracted it while we were separated and didn’t know that he had. I, thankfully, cleared the virus but he didn’t. I was unable to cope with the emotional stress of it and ended the relationship. After 9 months of being apart, we recently reconciled and re-married. We are vigilantly working through it but still not without occasional stress from it. It’s nice to know there is a support group to help get through the stressful times. I’d love to hear success stories of other couples that are in our same situation.

Dear @Jared_Kent ,

Welcome to HepBcommunity and thanks for sharing your story. It’s great to hear that the medication has worked so well with you. Did you experience any side-effects?
It’s also fantastic that you were able to find out about your Hep B early. I hope you are still able to stay as fit. Hep B shouldn’t have an impact on how we exercise and look after ourselves: I know we have some body-builders on the forum, I myself do boot-camp classes and some boxing sometimes (when we’re not in COVID19 lock-down).
Hope all goes well with your follow-up tests and keep us informed!

Dear @Helpme786,
Definitely there is a lot of research into hep B cures. The threads to check out are here:

Thanks for that helpful information, @Ankap. If you don’t mind, I will try to tag and mention you whenever we have users from India.

Dear @tmdiges, thanks for sharing your personal experiences. I am glad that you were able to clear the virus and that you have since reconciled with your husband. There are other experiences from others on this forum in the following threads:

Hope these help!

Cheers,
Thomas

@ThomasTu the only side effects I’ve had if they are even side effects is a weird feeling under my right rib cage which usually comes if I eat outside of my ordinary diet like fried foods etc. other than that I have not had any side effects. I do a lot of cardio daily and it tends to make me feel better most days if I’ve broken a sweat.

Great to hear, @Jared_Kent . Many people talk about possible side-effects (see here), but I think it’s also important to hear from those that don’t experience any, because in my experience the majority don’t.

Cheers,
TT

Thank you very much.

My Dr stated now that I am clear of the virus I can no longer transmit it to someone else. I have 2 younger children and my wife at homewhich concerns me. They are getting the vaccine but it is a 6 month process.

I still have fears they could get it. I would love a second opinion.

Thanks

Hi Perry,

If you HBV DNA is negative/undetectable, there is no risk of transmission.

Hope this helps,
Thomas

Hi Thomas,

Yes. It does help, There was a lot of confusion with all my blood tests, lost tests, wrong tests and the simple fact I’m not in the high risk categories but still contracted hep B left me slightly skeptical. And its good to have things confirmed.

Thank you
