Hi All doctors and friends
Please can you share how many days or weeks or months it takes hbsab to be positive after hbsag dissapear in an average.
Thank you
Thank you caraline and looking forward.
Dear @Salish99,
This is not an easy question to answer because many patterns can happen.
HBsAb can arise before HBsAg disappears, but in this case it is usually undetectable by the standard tests because the antibody binds to HBsAg, masking it in the common clinical tests.
HBsAb can also fail to become detectable after HBsAg loss; this is common in people who achieve functional cure from treatment and is why appearance of HBsAb is not part of the definition for functional cure.
Finally, HBsAb can arise after HBsAg loss–that is the normal pattern for someone who spontaneously clears an acute infection. In this case, HBsAb typically becomes detectable about the time that HBsAg becomes undetectable. Note however that this timing can vary quite a bit in different people.

Dear Silish99,
I am not a physician and cannot interpret people’s clinical tests. I’m a molecular virologist whose expertise is on the virus. I’m sure others with the appropriate expertise can answer your questions.
