Heb b results interpretation

Hello I am Micheal I am 25yrs old, recently diagnosed with hep b during a random test on April 2, my

HBsAg = positive

HBEAG is positive

Viral load extremely high = 666314451Ul/ml

Ultrasound = Normal

Fibroscan = Normal

Alt and Asat = Normal

Urine test : All normal

I have no noticeable symptoms, I just have little headaches and a feeling of being unwell that goes after 24hrs

My doctor said it’s an acute infection and he can’t prescribe medication because my liver is normal and there is no damage being done, I am scared this is something I had from birth but my family all test negative and were recently vaccinated, I had sex on Feb 5 this year I used a condome but I was given oral sex as well, I really doubt that doctors diagnostics because I don’t have any symptoms and that means I have an chronic infection, pls I really need help I am loosing my mind and can barely eat for a month now.

I can’t tell you for sure whether this is an acute infection vs chronic, especially not over the Internet. There is a blood test you can get to check this though. It’s called core antibody IgM. This type of antibody appears when you have a new infection, and then disappears within a few months. I recommend asking your doctor to order it. If your liver enzymes are normal, there’s no immediate danger to your liver, but please do be careful, because viral load is closely linked to transmissibility. People with a high viral load like you can transmit the virus more easily than someone with a low viral load.

Dear @Micheal, I’m so sorry you are going through this and I hope you know you are not going through it alone. Many of us here on the forum have chronic hepatitis B and live quite normal lives. Diagnosis when you do not have any liver damage (shown by your normal fibroscan and ultrasound) is great, as there are ways to prevent ongoing liver disease if indeed it is a chronic infection.

I agree with @et5656 post, it could be a chronic infection in immune tolerant phase or it could be an acute infection. In both, there could be no symptoms. The only way to be sure is to get tested in 6 months time to see if the HBsAg becomes negative.

Hope this helps,

Thomas

Hi @incognito_123,

I actually wouldn’t consider the changes to your HBsAg and HBV DNA to be statistically significant. It’s actually pretty common for HBsAg to fluctuate up and down, and HBV DNA can also flip back and forth from undetectable to being detectable at a very low number. I wouldn’t worry too much about HBV DNA unless it continues to go up. Resistance to TAF is very rare.

Indeed, the B12 levels and hypothyroidism are not generally affected by hepatitis B.

Hello @Opa

I can’t read results but someone

Will be able to answer you soon.

I am unaware of HBV affecting

kidneys unless it’s the Tenofovir.

What did your doctor say?

Hi @opa,

Yes, agree with Caraline, it would be helpful to hear what your doctor had said.
