Getting third dose of hepatitis B at first month of pregnancy

Hi everyone, my wife just found out she’s pregnant and she have third dose of hepatitis B coming next week. Currently my viral load is un detected . My question is, is it safe to get third dose of hepatitis B at one month of pregnancy? Thank you all in advance for your input.

2nd question, every time I run out of TDF I always get different brand of TDF, does it matter?

Many thanks.

Hi @Mathew,
Welcome to the community. Yes, she can get her third shot. The HBV vaccine does not contain any live virus so it is safe for pregnant women to receive. An extra note, it is great that your wife is getting vaccinated but please remember that your baby must receive the birth dose when born. Something important to note.

That should be fine. The brands might be different but the ingredients are going to be the same.
I hope this helps. Bansah1

Hi @Mathew,

First, CONGRATULATIONS on your impending child! That is so exciting!

Yes, the HBV vaccine is safe to give during pregnancy.

The different brands of TDF all have the same active ingredient at the amount listed on the container, but they may be formulated slightly differently–for example the pills may be a different shape or color, or have sugar versus starch or some other component holding them together (the active ingredient is usually a small fraction of the total contents of a pill). However, they will work the same.

John.
