Hi every one i diagnosted with chtonic hbv 1 year a go with no symptoms or traitment on age 53 so im school bus driver im worry of this can affect my job thanks
Hello friend,
Sorry to hear about that. Generally, you are not obliged to disclose your HBV status by law. Unless there is a blood incident with another person you may not tell them that you are a carrier.
As far as this is confirmed chronic infection via lab tests, the only thing you need to do is to check your viral load once or twice per year and take medications if it is above 2000 UI/ml. Consult your doctor for further info
Please have in mind that if your viral load is low (< 2000 UI/ml) or suppressed by medications, you may perform your home and job activities without any worries.
If your employers know about your status and want to dismiss you(because of your status) , you have the right to go to court
Regards
Steven
Thank u so much steven .but the pb is in the phyiscal exam for license they ask if you have any chronic deseas…???
Hi @Santos2007,
I don’t know which country you are in, but in the US for employment purposes they screen people for hepatitis B antibodies (HBsAb) not HBsAg (not looking for infection). So, it will all be dependent on where you are and their laws/policies regarding HBV. Please check the school district website for more information on this as each district might be different. Hope this is helpful. Bansah1.
Im for us i worked for school bus 3 years ago but i just diagnosted with chronic hbv this year i dont know if i have it befor or after im maried for 20 years i have kids all my familly test negative and vaccinted im not sure how i got it so should i talk to examiner about it … because i have to do physical exam every year but i dont know if its par of it ??
Hi @Santos2007,
Have you been tested for HBV during those years you worked as a bus driver? If it is No, then that is your answer. From my own experience most companies do not check or screen for HBsAg, they only do HBsAb and then vaccinate. This sometimes can give a false hope that you are vaccinated and then later you find out that you actually had the virus. Because you were not screened for it nobody found it. Hang in there. Bansah1
i worked 2 years as school bus driver befor i found that i have chronic hbv at the end of last year when my new primery doctor ask for all hepat test .but i passed the physical test as bus driver because the exminer didnt asked me about it and every thing was normal as now no traitment need plus i didnt know much about this disease. So should talk about this time or no because every thing still normal and i dont have any issues…??
Hi @Santos2007,
In the US, Hepatitis B is covered under the ADA and indeed discrimination based on your status contravenes this act (regardless of your viral load or any other test). There’s a lot of information here that may help you: U.S. Employment » Hepatitis B Foundation
Hope this helps,
Thomas
