Being on TDF but no follow up

Good morning everyone.

This is my second time of posting. I was first diagnosed with viral hepatitis B around June 2024. Apart from the Positive HbsAg, the HbeAg was also positive. Viral load was 117,500. I am 30.

So I started treatment in July 2024. Kidney function and other relevant test were done before initiating TDF. So I have been on TDF since July 2024 till today.

Here is the twist. I have not been on observation ever since starting TDF because I have travelled out of my home country. Currently in central Asia. Due to health insurance, language barrier and cost related issues I couldn’t go to the hospital. But still I am on TDF daily.

In the past 4 months, I have been noticing foamy urination. I assume it’s due to Tenofovir associated kidney injury. I felt it’s not cause for concern.

However for the past few days, I couldn’t sleep. I have an intense headache. So I had my BP checked. I discovered that it’s around 165/90 mmHg which is extremely high. Prior to this, I have no history of high blood pressure

Is this high blood pressure secondary to Tenofovir associated kidney injury?

I have faith in God. But often time, I do feel I am an unlucky human. I am highly depress. I cry everytime. Honestly, this diagnosis have taken away the happiness I used to have. I am no longer a happy person. But I felt this is the unlucky fate that befalls me

Hi @1994,
This is such a complex situation. Life can be unfair at times, but we are all worthy of living. We hear and empathize with you. Continued monitoring is important; however, with your circumstances, I am unsure how this could be tackled. Are there any community health organizations run by NGO’s that you could go to for help? Please, go and speak to someone at the hospital or clinic about your condition, and hopefully, they can help.

I doubt that about a year of being on Tenofovir has led to kidney injury this severe already. Something is going on, and we need to find a way so you can be seen and checked. Anyone in your situation will be worried and concerned as well. I hope there is a solution soon. Keep us posted. Bansah1

Dear @1994,

Thanks for sharing your story. It’s great that you have continued to take your medication over this time. As for the kidney injury, it is impossible for us to tell exactly what’s going on without tests and physical examination - you will need to go to a health professional to get the appropriate tests to confirm this and potentially address your high blood pressure.
