I would like to know if The drug Call " AUGMENTIS"
are safe to use for Hep B patient
Thanks you
Hi @ Thakama
Augmentin can be used in HBV infected patients as in other healthy individuals if clinically indicated such as upper and lower respiratory tract infections. I am PLHBV and sometimes used it for the treatment of my exacerbated rhinosinusitis without serious side effects except for frequent and loose stools. However, there are some case reports about liver injury after Augmentin treatments but rarely occur. A proportion of patients with liver injuries have subclinical or asymptomatic elevated liver enzymes.Cases with clinical Augmentin induced liver injury usually presented with cholestatic hepatitis. The mechanism of liver injury may be due to body immune response to clavulonic acid which is beta lactamase inhibitor and result in hepatocellular and bile duct injury. Risk factors may include advanced age , male, prolonged use of Augmentin or concomitant use of other drugs. Diagnosis should be based on exclusion of others hepatotrophic viral infection eg , HAV, HBV, HCV , autoimmune hepatitis or other suspected drugs. There is currently no evidence that patients with HBV are more likely to have Augmentin induced liver injury more than general population. Drugs should be used carefully only when there is clinical indication and consult with health care providers. I hope this may help you understand about Augmentin usage.

Hi @Thakama,
There is no studies that I can see that have described Augmentis-associated reactivation. Is there a specific reason that you are worried about this?
Thomas
Thanks you, : Dr. Thomas
No,There is Nothing special no specific reason / I am just curious,
Unfortunately, I just afraid that Augmentin (Amoxicillin-clavulanic) Might ruin a lab test result HBV
I have read those article from : https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/17162128/

Abstract
We described a patient with history of chronic hepatitis B in whom cholestatic hepatitis occurred after amoxicillin/clavulanic acid (Augmentin) therapy, which to our knowledge is the first case reported in Asia. An atypical serology profile of hepatitis B virus (HBV) markers, demonstrated by negative hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) associated with transient positivity of hepatitis B e antigen (HBeAg) and HBV DNA, was noted during the development of cholestasis.
Hi @Thakama,
As mentioned in the abstract (βto our knowledge [this] is the first case reported in Asia.β), this is a previously undocumented instance and likely very very rare phenomenon. There are a lot of cases of hepatitis B in Asia (~60% of all HBV case in the Asia Pacific, or ~180M people) and amoxicillin/clavulanic acid is a very commonly used drug, but this has only been described once.
So, to me, it is not likely at all that this is a common cause of HBV reactivation.
Hope this helps,
Thomas
