Recently diagnosed, anxious and seeking advice/ reassurance

As of a couple of days ago I started the 2 series vaccine. I guess I’m more confused about the prior exposure and yet still being susceptible. Shouldn’t I be immune if I’ve been infected?

I had those same thoughts as well, but immunity or protection can wane over time. Since we have no idea how long ago you were exposed, the best guess is that you had a strong immunity or protection at some point, but those levels have dropped. This is actually the case with a small number of people, but the majority of people develop life long protection. I am glad you are getting those shots. Check your levels again in about 2-3 months. Keep us posted. Best, Bansah1

Thank you for the info.

Is there a chance of a false positive total core?

Dear @Strobe.253,

Thanks for sharing your story and results. I’m sorry that you are having such a hard time with this. Indeed, these are not a standard profile of test panel results. There are potentially different interpretations of these results:

  1. It is a false positive for total anti-HBc antibodies
  2. A prior exposure many years ago that was cleared and with now waning antibody levels

Generally, a repeat of the blood tests would be ordered to confirm all of the suspicious results (in this case, it would be all of the ones associated with antibodies).

The good news is that your HBV DNA levels are undetectable which is you have a negligible risk of transmitting the virus and it is associated with no liver disease progression.

Hope this helps,
Thomas

Hi!

Happy new year all!

I’ve had a fib scan before (I want to say November last year) which I was told was normally and before my last 6 month blood test check up, I had a liver ultrasound.

My doctor has told me that I will do further blood test in April (which I know is normal) but has also ordered another fib scan at some point, this may also be in April, I am assuming.

I’m just really anxious about having another fib scan, does that mean he thinks I may have some liver issues that need looking into further since he ordered a fib scan instead of another ultrasound?

I just want to know what is considered normal or not

Thanks!

Hi @Mia1,

Fibroscan and ultrasound are parts of standard assessment for your liver monitoring, so there isn’t anything bad you should be reading into it.

Fibroscan is a better way to measure scar tissue in your liver (fibrosis and cirrhosis), whereas ultrasound is used to detect any masses in the liver.

It’s also generally important to get a baseline for fibroscan to understand better if your score changes in the future. This may be another reason why you are being directed to get a fibroscan in the absence of any liver disease progression.

Hope this helps,
Thomas
