Hi.
Please answer the question that worries me very much. I have chronic hepatitis B. I take entecavir 0.5. I want to have a baby (I am woman, 40yo). My doctor says that you can get pregnant without interrupting therapy, is this true? How does entecavir affect the fetus? Will this affect the child’s health?
Hi @Sutni,
Welcome to the community and thanks for your question. Check the attached document to help answer your question. I hope it helps. Bansah1.
Dear @Sutni,
Just to add to @Bansah1’s resource, tenofovir (TDF) is the recommended antiviral for people who are pregnant. There are not many studies about entecavir and pregnancy, but there are many studies showing that TDF is safe. (Managing hepatitis B virus in pregnancy and children - B Positive)
You should talk to your doctor and consider switching medications to the one recommended by HBV management guidelines.

Hi Sutni
Welcome to hepbcommunity.org forum . From your question, I think you should consider TDF for use in pregnancy like @ Thomas Tu and Bansah1 mentioned above more than entecavir(ETV) . I had experienced in studies about PMTCT for HBV compare between TDF and placebo in pregnant woman with HBsAg +ve and HBeAg +ve , I haven’t found any infants had adverse events during follow up until 12 months of age . Your problems and concerns may be due to changes from ETV that you regularly use to TDF during you know that you have pregnancy.
One study about CHB woman with long term use of ETV and had accidentally pregnancy and was replaced with TDF immediately. The summary of this study suggests using TDF therapy instead of ETV for CHB woman with long term ETV therapy who has accidental pregnancy and no need to terminate pregnancy. https://search.app/TXmAjZ1poboJvGTt5
When we have better options, we tend to choose medicines that are proven to be safe and supported by research evidences and guidelines. I hope this may help you for decision making and consult with your doctor
