Just diagnosed?

Hi @Madt,
Sorry to hear about you getting exposed at a bar. I am unsure of the circumstances surrounding why there was someone’s blood in a bar at the first place. I am glad you sought care immediately and got an HBIG and vaccines.

A few things here, I do not think the high blood sugar is related to the hepatitis exposure. There is no evidence that you currently have hepatitis B so at this point it is just an exposure. You are diabetic, you missed your medication, you did not eat, you drank on back to back days, etc. Some of these things can increase your blood sugar. If the medicine works well at controlling your blood sugar and you miss doses, then it is likely to create a spike in your numbers. Please take good care of this problem, it is not something you want to lose sight of.

Some patients with hepatitis B feel fatigued, but in your case it may be stress. You are going through something stressful and that could throw your system out of line. It is fair to say that you feel anxious for not knowing what is happening or going to happen, which might increase your stress and lead to some issues of fatigue. Since you have not tested positive for HBV, we have to treat these symptoms as not associated with HBV. Not eating can make you feel weak and fatigued as well. I don’t expect you to get jaundice if the exposure does not lead to an infection, which we don’t know at this point.

Sure, I don’t know how long it’s been since this happened, but there is no problem to retest again in a few months for HBsAg, HBsAb, hepatitis B IgG and IgM. Please, if possible, reduce your drinking and take care of yourself during this moment. Your family needs you.

I hope this is helpful. Bansah1

Sorry to hear about your struggles and your unfortunate circumstances, @Madt. Great that you were able to get the vaccination and treatment so quickly. As @Bansah1 has mentioned, I’ve never heard of anything regarding high blood sugar being linked to acute or chronic Hep B. I indeed think monitoring any hep B markers would be worthwhile, particularly to give you your peace of mind.

Hope this helps and please keep us up to date with how you’re going.
