I had taken pega interferon in the year 2014 to 2015 total 48 injection. Unfortunately I dint loose my hbsag. During that time I had lost a lot of hair and had severe anemia and I had episodes of fainting.
Later I developed hashimotos thyroiditis and anxiety.
Anxiety to go out and to go to hospital also suffering from infertility and had 4 miscarriages. No luck to have a baby
I would like to know the experiences of people who had taken the interferon
Sorry to hear about the many difficulties you have experienced and still fighting through. I hope you remain positive and to experience joy
Just even opening up and talking about it in a safe place helps. So good on you!
As part of a clinical trial I received a combination of interferon and vir3434 for a period of 12 months. It’s almost been a year since the end of treatment.
Whilst the hbsag wasn’t eliminated, the results have been encouraging. So fingers crossed.
I can share my experience during and post treatment. However I cannot say with certainty it was due solely to the interferon. Although in saying that some of things do align with what I have read.
I initially started off with the full dosage, however due to the drop in my wbc this was reduced. The interferon definitely made me feel depressed and grumpy more than normal. Also experienced worsening brain fog overtime.
Since the start of the treatment even until now, I felt inflammation that started at the centre just under my rib cage. It has gradually tracked to the right, than to the different parts of my back. I say it’s inflammation, but it’s really hard to describe like most times it’s a warm fuzzy and/or feels something is pressed into it.
Since been off treatment. My brain fog has disappeared. Feeling less depressed. My hair did thin during treatment. It has come back a bit but I do feel it’s thinner compared to the start of the treatment. I do struggle to lift my right arm above my head. Inflammation is more or less restricted to my back but on the right hand side.
Continue to take tenovafir. Waiting do my next blood test next months. So it will be interesting to see.
Really kind of you for replying. I Also had very low rbc counts and my hb came to even 6.5. I had to take erythropoitin injection. The anxiety which I had during the treatment had made me loose all my confidence. Also Im not able to work as I studied a medical background and to work we need to be medically fit and I’m always considered unfit. All these made me feel more unworthy and upset. Now I’m having sleepless nights thinking of all these.
I really hope your blood results turn to be a good news
No worries. I actually think you have a pretty amazing attitude and I don’t think you know it. You didn’t stop at the first hurdle. You kept trying and trying. I don’t think many people have the character to do that. It takes someone strong minded to that.
I guess for most people, they have a predefined idea how life will turn out. But the truth of the matter, nothing is guaranteed in life.
I might be digressing here, but hopefully it provides food for thought. I read a book and talked it about a study about anxiety. The general level of anxiety has increased gradually since ww2. If we ignore the current geopolitical events, Our general quality of life has improved and there has been relatively peaceful over the world. So it doesn’t make sense why our anxiety levels would rise. If I recall right, part of the reason is we project a lot of things into the future. From education, relationships, family etc. I think we have a weird dynamic where increased quality of life and stability actually encourages us to project how we will be in the future. But the truth of the matter, there’s no certainty in life.
What’s the solution. I don’t actually know. My personal experience, I focus less on trying to project into the future. I’m more accepting of fate, serendipity, randomness etc. But importantly trying to adapt to the situation.
For what it’s worth. I thought things happen in threes was just a saying, but it’s actually true. When I started tenovafir treatment in 2019. Work, health, relationships suffered badly. It was a probably one of my lowest times of my life. But here’s the crazy thing. If you ask how I felt when it happened, say 2 years after it happened and now. I would give you very different answers, all based on the same time in life. I think perception and timeframe can make a difference.
Sorry for digressing and this long winded response. But I thought it was important to let you know that. Something positive can potentially be around the corner, but you just don’t know it yet or what it is. Perhaps it will require a bit adaptation. But who knows.
As I said at the beginning. From what you have described, I think you have an amazing attitude. One that’s hard to replicate. So please don’t lose sight of that and be hard on yourself.
