Can earwax transmits virus

Hi Sir

I am hepatitis b positive with viral load 21000 hbeag negative and anti hbe positive.i have a 2 year kid whose is vaccinated and has 13 anti hbs and hbsag negative and my wife is recently vaccinated with 2 doses after knowing that I have hepatitis b and hbsag is negative. My daughter accidentally kept my ear earphone bud in mouth. Is earwax transmit virus to her as she is vaccinated. Should I give boosted dose to my daughter.

My daughter is taking antibiotics due to some bacterial infection. Will this antibiotics reduce anti hbs level. Should I worried.

Hi Rajesh. While HBV DNA can be found in earwax, the virus does not transmit orally. Only when the virions enter the bloodstream can they cause infection. However, if your daughter’s surface antibody level is greater than 10IU/L, the risk is negligible. It is believed that a complete series of vaccinations can build long-term protection, yet people who have close contact with HBV carriers should maintain HBsAb greater than 10IU/L. Your kids’ HBsAb is around the threshold, and maybe a booster can be given. Please seek advice from medical practitioners.

Hi @Rajesh_Raj,
There should be no issue here. Earwax does not contain blood unless you have injured your ears. The second thing is that your daughter is vaccinated with a strong antibody, even if there was blood in the earwax, she should still be fine. I won’t worry too much about this. Best, Bansah1

Completely agree with @Sammie_J and @Bansah1, the risk of transmission in this case is negligible.

Hi Sir

Booster dose is needed or not sir and can antibiotics effect anti hbs count sir

Hi @Rajesh_Raj,
No, she does not need a booster. We can consider a booster if HBsAb drops below 10 IU/mL. That is not the case here. Best, Bansah1
