I understand what you are saying @Barry. I have an idea where I got HBV, two ideas actually and both involve shame.
I don’t stay in the thought of how did I get it, because we can never know for certain.
First thing people ask you…where did you get that from? Hence I don’t tell people.
Usually say, well I don’t really know. They don’t say anything but I feel the shame.
Can’t change the past.
@Caraline: Yes, I too hate the question of where did I contract hepatitis. And I have a searing anger inside me that no doctor ever recommended the vaccine for me. I mean they give it to most babies (even if their mothers don’t have hepatitis B) yet never mention it to adults, who are clearly at higher risk than children.

Agree, and even if you provide a reason that isn’t necessarily stigmatising to you (e.g., mother to child transmission), you are suddenly “outing” a loved one!
