(Australia) Changes to hepB prescribing

Hi community,

this is some good news specifically for our Australian members: as of 1st September, all medical practitioners and authorised nurse practitioners will be able to prescribe hep B antivirals!
The drugs will remain on the S100 schedule but won’t require an S100 prescriber. Obviously this will take some time to implement, but watch this space- it’s going to make accessing treatment much easier.

You can find out more information from ASHM here: https://ashmmarcomms.cmail20.com/t/y-e-ftjhjx-diukkkllw-b/

Or in this fact sheet: https://www.pbs.gov.au/files/hsd-files/fact-sheet-removal-of-prescriber-accreditation-requirements-for-hepatitis-B-and-hepatitis-C-medicines-under-the-pbs-s100-highly-specialised-drugs-program-(1-september-2026).PDF

Great news! This will allow more doctors to be able to prescribe Hep B medications, meaning that patients won’t have to keep visiting different clinicians to get access to meds!
